Join the Aliveness Project of Northwest Indiana on January 27th for the Real Talk episode Addiction and Recovery: The Black Male Experience featuring Tony Toomer, opioid treatment program manager for Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration. Tony will share his years of experience with treatment programs as a provider and client. He will be joined by two other Black males residing in northwest Indiana, to discuss what addiction and recovery look like for Black men living in northwest Indiana and Indianapolis.
The episode will explore how addiction has affected the personal and professional lives of these and other Black men of diverse identifications. Real Talk continues to explore the real struggles of addition, the pathway to recovery, and the daily work of maintaining sobriety. The panel will address the questions of why addiction is a problem in the Black male community, recovery strategies that work or don’t work, the differences between support and enabling, and what providers, family and community can do to support recovery.
